MANILA, Philippines – Two policemen were killed in a shootout incident outside Ever Gotesco mall along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Wednesday evening, February 24.
The gunfight between Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) began at 6:08 p.m.
GMA News reported that members of the QCPD District Special Operations Unit conducted a buy-bust operation at a fast food restaurant adjacent to the mall.
The incident also caused major traffic at the eastbound lane in the area.
Earlier, Ever Gotesco said that they "have secured all access to the mall so all shoppers are safe inside."
"Our priority right now is to ensure the safety of the employees and the public. The management is closely coordinating with the PNP of the current situation. Please bear with us as we allow the authorities to handle the situation," the mall said in a statement.
Ever also appealed to the public for "everyone’s cooperation to exercise caution in sharing unconfirmed information online."
