New doctor honors dad who died of cancer before she took PLE

MANILA, Philippines – After becoming a doctor, Ria Duana Roble honored her father who died of cancer before she took the Physician Licensure Exam (PLE).

“Doctor na ako, Pa! Sorry hindi ka nakaabot,” she told her father in a bittersweet post she wrote on Facebook. “Tuloy lang ang laban!”

In her post, the new doctor wrote that she was grateful for the chance to spend time with her dad for a week before he took his last breath.

“Papa was already a little disoriented and so I tried to talk to him face to face looking straight to his eyes and I said, ‘Pa, niuli ko para nimo. (Pa, I went home for you.) Papa I miss you.’… And he replied, ‘Thank you, NAK!’ with a soft and the usual voice I love to hear from him. I got teary eyed. It was the last time that he was able to talk clearly to me.

That was 7 months ago. It happened in April 2020, back when many parts of the country were placed in ECQ to combat the rapid spread of COVID-19. Her siblings were unable to go home and be with their father but were only able to connect via video call as they bid him goodbye.

Roble expressed amazement over her late father’s strong faith in God. He never wavered in his faith despite the difficult and painful situation he was in.

When they asked him if he ever questioned God why he had this cancer, why he needed to suffer and go thru this pain, he told his family to never question God because His wisdom is unfathomable. He also pointed out that God is eternal while humans are merely passing by.

From someone who’s having a really painful experience with cancer, Roble was amazed at her father’s steadfast faith.

She also recalled how he had always been a loving and supportive dad. Each time she has difficulties or needed someone to talk to, he was always there to lend a listening ear – and he’s just one text away. Way back in 2019 when she had to take an exam in med school, he prayed for her and offered support, as always. She shared a screenshot of that convo in her post.

Though he was unable to witness the day that his daughter became a full-fledged doctor, Eduardo Roble probably knew that she’s going to make it!
