Ginebra makes it 3-1 vs. TNT, just a win away from PBA Philippine Cup title

TNT’s Game 3 win was really a main concern for Coach Tim Cone as Tropang Giga made it without ace player Bobby Ray Parks Jr.

Parks Jr. was still questionable in Game 4 due to a lingering calf injury. Despite the former NBA GLeague guard’s absence, TNT still found its way to stay ahead of Ginebra in the opening quarter.

The game remained so close until the end of the 1st quarter. It was Jeff Chan who broke the deadlock with a long trey to make it 17-14 in favor of Ginebra.

Coach Cone settled for a big lineup in the 2nd quarter as he fielded Japeth Aguilar and Prince Caperal in together. With their big rebounders underneath the basket, Ginebra guards had a luxury of raining it from the outside that resulted in a comfortable lead.

Roger Ray Pogoy had a great 2nd period showing but his relentless efforts were not enough to prevent Ginebra from getting away with a double-digit lead, 49-39 entering the 2nd half.

TNT looked gassed out in the 3rd quarter. Tropang Giga’s three point shooting massively decreased. In contrast, Ginebra’s shooting was almost immaculate and helped the team to widen the gap.

Aside from shooting woes, TNT was struck by another very unfortunate event as skipper Jayson Castro injured his left knee and was doubtful to return in the game.

TNT couldn't do anything but to stare at Ginebra’s ballooning lead, 76-60 at the end of the third.

Slowly, Tropang Giga tried to come back after being down by a lot in the 4th quarter. TNT relied on RR Pogoy offensively with a miniscule aid from Troy Rosario and Simon Enciso.

TNT was able to bring the lead down to 3 under 2 minutes of the game but LA Tenorio’s outside sniping stopped Tropang Giga in tying or winning the Game 3.

Ginebra Gin Kings’ 98-88 win put TNT on the brink of elimination as the most liked team in the country posted a 3-1 series advantage.

Brgy. Ginebra will have a chance to close the series on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 6 pm.
