MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a magnitude 5.3 earthquake that shook parts of northern Mindanao on Thursday afternoon, November 12, 2020.

Magnitude 5.3 earthquake shakes northern Mindanao

The exact time of occurrence was recorded at 3:18:25 PM with epicenter near Burgos, Surigao Del Norte.

The earthquake that occurred has a tectonic origin with 10 km depth of focus.

The tremor was felt at Intensity III in Surigao City and Rosario, Agusan del Sur.

  • Intensity II - Borongan City, Eastern Samar; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental
  • Intensity I - Catbalogan City, Samar

Phivolcs is not expecting damage after the quake but warned that aftershocks may happen.
