MANILA, Philippines – The Palace on Saturday, September 19, confirms that President Rodrigo Duterte decided to maintain the one-meter physical distancing in public transportation.
“Matapos pong pag-aralan ni Presidente ang desisyon ng parehong panig… Nag-desisyon na po ang Presidente kahapon. Ang desisyon po ng Presidente, mananatili po ang one-meter social distancing sa pampublikong transportation," Presidential spokesman Harry Roque announced over PTV-4.
The decision revokes the earlier recommendation of Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to have 0.75 meter physical distancing in public transport.
"In addition to this physical distancing, the commuting public must adhere to health protocols, such as wearing of face mask/shield and no talking and no eating inside the public mode of transport," the statement from the Palace reads.
With the reopening of the economy, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced early this month that it will start easing the required distancing measures in public transport.
The move received criticisms especially from medical groups. Duterte directed IATF to revisit the proposal.
