MANILA, Philippines – The first-ever Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) coronation night has been moved to a later date due to coronavirus pandemic.
MUP creative director Jonas Gaffud confirmed the new schedule in an Instagram post.
"So we are moving the finals of Miss Universe Philippines 2020 to October 25. I miss the ladies, I miss training and seeing them smile," he said.
The MUP 2020 was initially scheduled on May 3 but organizers decided to move the pageant to June 14 amid the COVID-19 crisis.
The competition will select the country's representative to the Miss Universe pageant, one of the Big Four international beauty pageants.
The current Miss Universe Philippines is Gazini Ganados who was crowned on June 9, 2019 at the Smart Araneta Colesium, Quezon City.
Prior to Miss Universe Philippines, the title was awarded through Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. through the Binibining Pilipinas pageant from 1964 to 2019.
