A number of netizens were wondering why the people were trying to chase the ‘aswang’ when they should have been hiding. After all, according to myth, the ‘aswang’ could eat people! But perhaps they were emboldened because they were so many, other netizens suggested.

Because it was dark, the alleged ‘aswang’ was not also clearly seen in the video, but the people could be heard screaming after the creature appeared to land on one of the houses. The video was supposedly taken somewhere in Lapuz, Iloilo City.

After some time, the people saw the ‘aswang’ at a tree. It is not known whether someone dared to go closer to check whether the ‘aswang’ was for real though there were people in the video carrying what look like air guns.

One of the women could be heard explaining that they saw what looked like a huge cat crawling up the rooftops before it flew up, leading them to believe it was a real ‘aswang’.

Twitter user Kernel’s Corner posted a transcript of the video:

Ayon, ayon! Ang bata! Asan na naman siya?

Saan! Andon may kumalampag doon.

But many netizens were also skeptical that it was an ‘aswang’, saying that we already live in modern times and stories like the ‘aswang’ are from the past. Others explained that the ‘aswang’ in question might actually be a huge fruit bat.

“Most likely just a harmless fruit bat. They may look scary but humans are probably endangering them more than they could possibly endanger humans,” replied netizen @siyentipisko, sharing a sample photo of a ‘scary’ fruit bat.
