Presidential Spokesperson Salvador S. Panelo said Duterte is currently away from his home and on self-quaratine at Malacañang's Bahay Pagbabago following the exposure to some officials who tested positive of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"Duterte will self-quarantine himself on his birthday following the advice of the Presidential Security Group as well as doctors for his protection following his exposure to some officials who themselves may have been exposed to a confirmed Covid-19 victim," Panelo wrote.

Senator Bong Go said Duterte is not experiencing any symptoms and is in good health and will be on home quarantine until April 7.

“Gayunpaman, patuloy pa rin niyang tinututukan ang sitwasyon ng bansa at nagbibigay ng importanteng mga utos sa mga opisyal ng gobyerno,” Go said.

Duterte, the oldest to be elected Philippine President, earlier tested negative for the virus, which is known to severely affect the elderly.

Panelo added that Duterte's only birthday wish is for our countrymen to stay home and the total eradication of the coronavirus.

"The nation’s prayers for your good health and well being go to you Mr. President on this day of your birth. Long life! We pray that the Almighty continue to give you enough good health and divine guidance as you safely navigate our people through the rampaging waves of this treacherous ocean of a dreadful disease. God bless," Panelo wrote.

On March 24, Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11469 or the ‘Bayanihan to Heal As One Act’ to curb the continuing rise of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country. The passage of the law comes following an order placing the entire Luzon under ‘Enhanced Community Quarantine’ and the declaration of Proclamation Nos. 922 and 929 (series of 2020) that places the country under a ‘State of Public Health Emergency’ and ‘State of Calamity’.
