    H-O Passers: 2019 Bar Exam Result

    MANILA, Philippines – The November 2019 bar exam results are out online this summer or expected in April - May 2020, five (5) months after the series of tests. The Supreme Court (SC) will release the complete list of passers out of 7,685 aspiring lawyers who completed the exams. View on this page for H-O list of new lawyers.

    The confirmation of the exact release date will be announced by SC Associate Justice Estela M. Perlas-Bernabe, head of the 2019 Bar Examinations Committee.

    The 118th bar exam was administered on four Sundays of November 2019 at the University of Santo Tomas (UST).

    The announcement of passers is set after the special en banc session. The protocol to decode results and deliberate the passing rate is headed by Committee Chairman Bernabe.

    Traditionally, the names of those who have hurdled the exam are being flashed on a widescreen at the Supreme Court. Results can be viewed simultaneously on SC's official website.

    COVERAGE OF EXAM

    The 2019 bar exam is composed of eight (8) subjects: Political Law and Public International Law (15%), Labor and Social Legislation (10%), Civil Law (15%), Taxation (10%), Mercantile Law (15%), Criminal Law (10%), Remedial Law (20%) and Legal and Judicial Ethics (5%).

    PREVIOUS BAR EXAM

    In the 2018 bar exams, only 22.07% (1,800 out of 8,158) passed the exams. Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) graduate Sean James Borja topped the bar with 89.31%.

    In the 2017 bar exam, passing rate was 25.55%. Graduates of provincial law schools dominated the list of topnotchers. Mark John Simondo, graduate of University of St. La Salle (USLS) in Bacolod, Negros Occidental topped the bar with 91.05 percent.

    In the 2016 exam, bar hit a record-breaking 59.06% passing rate. This was a historic high for at least 30 years. All topnotchers came from the provincial law schools, leading the usual top performing NCR-based schools. University of San Carlos' Karen Mae Calam got the highest place with a rating of 89.05%.

    PHILIPPINE BAR EXAM OVERVIEW

    The Philippine bar examinations, dubbed as the most prestigious professional licensure exam in the country for aspiring lawyers, is the only professional exam not handled by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). It is exclusively supervised by the Supreme Court.

    The SC conducts the Bar examinations pursuant to Article VIII, Section 5 of the Constitution which provides that it shall have the power to promulgate rules governing the admission to the practice of law.

    The tough examination has the usual passing rate of 20 to 30%.
