Tropical Depression Ursula to enter PAR December 22 or 23

MANILA, Philippines – Rainy Christmas is expected in Mindanao and Visayas regions as Tropical Depression, to be named Ursula, is about to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight to tomorrow morning (December 22 or 23), based on PAGASA's weather update today, December 22.

The state weather bureau spotted potential Ursula at 1,510 km East of Mindanao.

Ursula has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gusts of 70 kph. It is moving West Northwest at 25 kph.

The tropical depression has no direct effect on any part of the country at the moment.

TD is forecast to make landfall between Eastern Visayas and Caraga area on Tuesday evening (December 24) or Christmas Day early morning (December 25). It will traverse the Visayas area.

NOTE: On Christmas Eve, moderate to occasionally heavy rains may prevail over Visayas and northeastern Mindanao.


Meanwhile, PAGASA is also monitoring a shallow Low Pressure Area (LPA) at 65 km South Southwest of Davao City, Davao del Sur. Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms is expected over the areas of Mindanao, Eastern and Central Visayas.

Easterlies now affecting the eastern section: Bicol region, Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
