In the 2017 SEA Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, it took the Filipinos the entire competition to win 24 gold medals. This was later reduced to 23 after an equestrian was stripped of his medal and title after his horse tested positive of a banned substance. But with home court advantage, it took the Pinoy athletes just one day to get the same amount of gold in the 2019 SEA Games!

The gold rush began with an early win for John Rambo Chicano who got the gold for the Men’s Triathlon event held in Subic Bay. Kim Mangrobang would also bring home the gold as she wins the Women’s Triathlon event.

But the two triathlon athletes were not the only ones who won gold for the country on Day 1 of the 2019 SEA Games.
