'Bagyong Kabayan' PAGASA weather update September 1, 2019

MANILA, Philippines – The Low Pressure Area (LPA) West of Calayan, Cagayan has developed into Tropical Depression and was named 'Kabayan', state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 5:00 am bulletin on Sunday, September 1, 2019.

At 4:00 am today, the center of 'Bagyong Kabayan', the country's 11th tropical cyclone for this year, was estimated based on all available data at 310 km West of Calayan, Cagayan.

'Bagyong Kabayan' has maximum winds of up to 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is moving West at 20 kph.

'Kabayan' is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this morning. Outside the PAR, it is forecast to intensify into a Tropical Storm while moving westward towards the southern China - northern Vietnam area.

NOTE: There are no areas under tropical cyclone warning signal as of press time.

Due to the Southwest Monsoon, scattered light to moderate rains with at times heavy rain showers may be experienced over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Western Visayas.

Sea travel is not advised for small seacrafts over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon due to potentially rough sea conditions.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to continue monitoring for updates on this weather disturbance.
