French embassy offers masteral, doctorate degree scholarship for Filipinos

MANILA, Philippines – The French Embassy has announced that they are now accepting applications for their “PhilFrance scholarship program” for the academic year 2019-2020.

Aside from tuition fee subsidy, monthly stipend starting at P41,000 to P62,000 await the chosen scholars!

Under the PhilFrance scholarship, deserving Filipino students and professionals aiming to pursue their Master’s or Doctorate degrees in all fields of study will receive subsidy as they study in France.

According to the French embassy, the scholarships are awarded to “highly-qualified candidates who have demonstrated strong academic and leadership qualities in their scholarly and professional activities.”

The scholarship package includes:

1. Tuition fee subsidy for the entire duration of the graduate program

For state-regulated public universities:

Exemption from university registration fees texonération des frais d’inscription à l’université)
  • For reference – University registration fees as of February 2019: €3 770 per academic year for Master’s and Doctorate levels

For other French higher education institutions:
  • Partial tuition fee (frais de formation/frais de scolarité) subsidy, amounting to a maximum of €5 000 tnon-negotiable) per academic year
  • This subsidy is not convertible to cash and it will be paid directly to the French higher education institution

2. Monthly allowance of €700 (around P41,000) for Master’s or €1060 (around P62,000) for PhD candidates. Plus, €700 installation allowance

3. Health care package

4. Priority access to public student accommodations for the expected length of their academic programs

Eligibility criteria:
  • Filipino citizens residing in the Philippines at the time of application - Graduates or graduating students of a Philippine higher education institution
  • For applicants to Master’s degree programs: final-year students or graduates of a Bachelor-level degree
  • For applicants to PhD programs: final-year students or graduates of a Master-level degree.

Eligible programs

A degree-awarding graduate program (Master’s or PhD) taught at a French higher education institution (public or private), in academic disciplines only
  • Online tools for finding English-taught graduate programs are available in the Other Resources section
  • Vocational and technical disciplines such as culinary arts and fashion design are ineligible
  • Foreign higher education institutions based in France are not eligible for this scholarship

Application materials

1. A one-page CV detailing your academic, professional, and leadership experience

2. An essay no longer than 500 words, explaining your reasons for wanting to study in France and how your experience and degree will benefit the Philippines and Filipino society

NB: Essays exceeding the word limit will be discarded along with the application. Be advised that we ask for an academic essay, not a cover or motivation letter.

3. Official copy of complete and most recent academic transcripts (university-level grades)

4. Letter/s of acceptance or proof of a completed application to graduate degree programs, issued by the French higher education institution (HEI) where you applied to

5. Proof of financial resources (personal or household) such as the latest income tax return statement

* Optional: Letter/s of acceptance, or acknowledgment/s of application, to other scholarship programs as long as these are not funded by the French government

* Optional: French proficiency test results (such as DELF) or a letter from a French language instructor detailing your writing and speaking proficiency levels

Document formats: All documents must be in PDF format except for the essay, which must be submitted as a Word document.

Additional documents (such as letters of recommendation) submitted without the Embassy requesting them, will not be accepted.

Any attempt to unduly influence the decision-making process will result in the dismissal of the candidate’s application.

Important reminder: Please make sure to double-check your documents before submitting them. Applications who do not follow these instructions (incorrect/incomplete files) will be discarded.

All applications must be submitted only through www.philfrance-scholarships.com.

Applications sent through other channels (paper, email, etc.) will not be accepted, and will therefore be considered invalid.

Deadline of application will be on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 4:00 pm.
