DepEd releases school calendar for SY 2019-2020

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Education (DepEd) released recently the official calendar for school year (SY) 2019-2020. Based on DepEd Order No. 007, series of 2019, the opening of classes shall be on Monday, June 3, 2019 and the last day shall be on Friday, April 3, 2020.

The school year is consist of 203 school days inclusive of the five-day In-Service Training and three days for the Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) conducted within the school year and the World Teachers' Day.

"Private schools may deviate from this School Calendar. However, they may not start classes earlier than the first Monday of June nor later than the last day of August, as provided in Republic Act (RA) No. 7797 entitled An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days. Said schools should notify in advance their respective regional offices (ROs) regarding any deviation from the school calendar," DepEd said.

Deworming of children in school shall be conducted in the months of July 2019 and January 2020.

Career guidance activities shall be conducted between July and November 2019 to guide Grades 9 and 10 students in making informed choices on their preferred Senior High School track.

DepEd added that Christmas break shall begin on Sunday, December 15, 2019. Classes shall resume Monday, January 6, 2020.

The summer/remedial classes shall begin on Monday, April 13, 2020 and end on Friday, May 22, 2020.

Dealing with make-up classes due to celebrations and holidays, as well as natural and man-made calamities, it must be agreed upon by school heads, teachers and concerned parents.
