VIDEO: Saudi plane forced to return mid-flight after mother left baby at airport

A plane was forced to turn around and return to the terminal after a passenger realized she forget her baby at the boarding area.

In a bizarre twist of events, a Saudi plane Flight SV832, from Jeddah to Kuala Lumpur had to turn back after taking off. The reason was that a mother had accidentally left her baby at the boarding area of King Abdulaziz International Airport.

A video of the pilot's distress call quickly went viral. In the video, the pilot was requesting permission to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) to return. After hearing the reason, the ATC was also surprised and had to figure out the protocol. In Dubai, flights are only allowed to return to airports when there is a “major emergency.”

“May God be with us. Can we come back or what?” the pilot was heard talking to air traffic controller.

The ATC can be heard relaying the request to a colleague, “This flight is requesting to come back…a passenger forgot her baby in the waiting area, the poor thing.”

To confirm, the ATC official again requested for the pilot to repeat the reason for the return of the plane. The pilot replied, “We told you, a passenger left her baby in the terminal and refuses to continue the flight.”

To this, the official gave a go signal. The ATC said, “Ok, head back to the gate. This is totally a new one for us!”

It is unclear what happened next but everyone hoped that everything went well. Some lauded the pilot's decisiveness and the ATC immediate response. Some, however, were worried about the mother's carelessness.

While it may seem like a bizarre incident, a similar situation had also happened in October 2018. A German couple accidentally left their 5-year-old daughter at an airport in the southern city of Stuttgart.
