MANILA, Philippines – Classes have been suspended in several areas on Monday, January 21, 2019 due to bad weather caused by Tropical Depression Amang.

At 1:00 pm on Sunday, state weather bureau PAGASA tracked 'Amang' at 235 km East Southeast of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. It is expected to make landfall over its mainland and Siargao Islands between this afternoon and evening.

Today, moderate to heavy rains will prevail over Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Negros Provinces, Northern Cebu, and Bohol.

Meanwhile, tomorrow (January 21), moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region and Dinagat Islands.

Tropical cyclone warning signal No. 1 (30-60 km/h expected in 36 hours) was raised over the areas of Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern Bohol and Northern Cebu Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands and Camiguin.

According to the automatic class suspension guideline by DepEd, LGUs have the authority to declare local suspensions in areas where there is no storm signal.

Meanwhile, cancellation of classes in the tertiary level especially in the private institutions will be at discretion of school administrators.
