Baby saved by doctor for free, now a student determined to be a doctor to help others

MANILA, Philippines – A baby who was once saved by a doctor is now determined to be a doctor herself. When the time comes, she promises to give back and help others in need too.

On Twitter, user Arabella Garciano shared a touching photo of herself hugging a woman. It may look like an ordinary loving photo but the story behind it has touched the hearts of many netizens.

According to Arabella, the woman in the photo is the doctor who she owes her life to. She tweets, “17 years ago, a sickly baby needed an operation because she has a cyst on her chest. The mother only has ₱40 on her wallet. But this doctor operated the child. For free.”

Arabella continued how the doctor's selfless act of kindness has inspired her to become a doctor. She wrote, “And that is why I need to become a doctor. I need to share the same kindness I was lucky enough to receive.”

Arabella introduced the doctor as Dr. Maribel Du, a pediatric surgeon from University of Cebu Medical Center.

Arabella is now a 17-year-old senior high school student from Tagbilaran City High School. She hopes that she would someday pass on the the compassion shown by Dr. Du to many more patients in need.

The student's tweet had touched the hearts of many as it quickly went viral. On Twitter, it had been liked 33,600 times since posting.
