The video posted by Myraflor Flores Basbas on Facebook was allegedly taken by the father himself as an attempt to force his wife to come back home. The man can be heard forcefully asking his son if her mother was happy for leaving them to return to her province in Iloilo. He said, “Ano, masaya ang mommy mo sa desisyon niya?”

The father then proceeded to hit the kid on the face and made several more punches on the boy's small body. The boy was seen crying in pain.

Sta. Rosa Police Chief Supt. Eugene Orate confirmed that they have arrested the father in the video. According to their initial investigation, the incident took place in the suspect's house in Sta. Rosa last December 18. The couple had a misunderstanding that led to the mother leaving them. The suspect sent the video of him assaulting their son to his wife on Christmas Day.

The father will undergo drug test and be charged with violating the child abuse law.

Orate confirmed that the child had sustained bruises and was taken for a medical test. He will then be placed under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary Glenda Relova said that according to law, they need to find the mother first and assess her capacity to take care of the child.

"Subalit kung sa pag-aaral ng DSWD, wala po siyang kakayahan talaga na pangalagaan ang bata…so hindi po natin ibibigay sa kanya yung bata,” she said.
