Pomoy rose to fame in the Philippines when he auditioned for Pilipinas Got Talent (season 2) back in 2011. Netizens were amazed when he sang “Narito Ako” by Regine Velasquez. Although he talks in an obviously male voice, his female soprano singing voice amazed everyone!

Some people, even the judges, thought at first that he was gay but he confirmed that he’s straight and that the female voice is really just his unique talent. He went on to win that season and everyone thought that he might also make it big in international shows as his talent was quite unique.

But it took many years before he was finally noticed by Ellen DeGeneres who has a penchant for featuring viral hits, social media stars, and people with unique talents.

Pomoy told DeGeneres that when he finally got the email from her team, he thought it was just a prank and didn’t fully believe it was real until he received the tickets. It was a dream come true for the 34-year-old singer who also shared on the show that he lived in the streets back when he was still 7 years old, earning around Php50 ($1) a day to feed himself.

But while his story touched the hearts of the audience, it was his performance that got them truly amazed.

When he started singing the female parts of the song, the audience were clearly surprised that he did it so well! After all, the song is known to be a difficult piece with its high notes but Pomoy nailed the performance, not missing a beat even as he sang the duet by himself. Impressive, isn’t he?
