Netizens react as Bongbong Marcos introduced as “soon to be VP” in PRC oath taking ceremony

MANILA, Philippines – Netizens reacted after former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was introduced as the “soon to be Vice President” at the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)’s oath taking ceremony for new dentists, dental hygienists and dental specialists on July 9 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

On Twitter, netizen Mookiebutter said Marcos, who failed in the vice-presidential race in 2016, was the guest speaker in the oathtaking ceremony.

She said that several people including her and their dean raised their fists in protests. Marcos even commented, “mga palaban ah.” The frustrated netizen said that they were glad Marcos got their message. She tweeted, “Mabuti naman at gets niya ang mensahe. Para sa speaker na nagsabing sign yun ng tagumpay, hindi ho.”

Last year, Marcos was also a guest speaker at the same oath taking at PICC. Another netizen quipped, “He was also invited for last year’s oath taking, he even made the same joke. Meaning, that it isn’t some mishap.”

Other netizens and new dentists reacted to the incident

"Considering PRC (especially the board of medicine) is ridden with Marcos loyalists, I wouldn't be surprised," netizen E. Alcanzare tweeted.

"'Yung nagpakahirap kang makapagtapos, magsunog ng kilay at makapag-oathtaking tapos ang guest of speaker mo 'yung taong naMEKE ng credentials, nagsinungaling sa kanyang diploma, assuming VP at anak ng MAGNANAKAW tapos tatawagin pang "HONORABLE?," Twitter user BobbyB wrote.

"What @PRC_main did at the oath-taking of new dentists, having Bongbong Marcos as the guest speaker, makes me question the value of my physician's license from #PRC. We became health professionals to serve people, one way or another. Don't use us in ur political games. Disgusting!," Twitter user Ria Verdolaga said.

Recount update

The Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) started the manual recount of election votes for the Vice President position in April this year after claims of “massive cheating.” Marcos lost against Vice-President Leni Robredo by around 260,000 votes.

Marcos claimed that Robredo’s camp manipulated the voting machines to ensure that Robredo would win.

Recently, Marcos asked for a probe on an outing that happened last month that was attended by an employee of Vice President Leni Robredo and several personnel of Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET). Marcos claimed that it shows that Robredo’s camp already “infiltrated” the PET and might use it to “manipulate, influence, and/or control” the ongoing VP recount.

Robredo’s camp brushed off the accusations and claimed that even the Marcos’ camp was invited to join the outing initiated by the tribunal. Atty. Romeo Macalintal of Robredo, added that they “even sent food to Marcos camp.”
