'Bagyong Ester' PAGASA weather update June 15, 2018

MANILA, Philippines – 'Bagyong Ester' has slowed down slightly and now in the vicinity of Southern Taiwan, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 5:00 am update on Friday, June 15, 2018.

At 4:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression 'Ester' was estimated based on all available data at 325 km North Northwest of Basco, Batanes (23.0°N, 120.5°E).

'Ester' has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km/h. It is forecast to move Northeast at 13 km/h.

Forecast Positions/Outlook:

  • 24 Hour (Tomorrow morning): 785 km North Northeast of Basco, Batanes (OUTSIDE PAR) (26.3°N, 126.2°E)
  • 48 Hour (Sunday morning): 1,300 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes (OUTSIDE PAR) (27.9°N, 131.8°E)

The Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal over Batanes is now lifted.

The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by the tropical depression 'Ester' will bring monsoon rains over Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Tarlac, Pampanga, Zambales and Bataan; light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Metro Manila, CALABAZON, MIMAROPA and the rest of Cagayan Valley and of Central Luzon.

"Residents of the aforementioned areas, especially those living near or in low-lying and mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible floodings and landslides, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices and continue monitoring for updates," weather central said.

"Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon," PAGASA added.
