The officials were in Barangay Rio Hondo, Zamboanga City to inspect a housing project made for the evacuees of the Zamboanga siege back in 2013. After falling into the murky waters, the officials only suffered minor injuries.

Benitez, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development tweeted about the incident. He called out the lack of maintenance of bridges and houses.

Benitez, who was in Zamboanga City to look into the housing project admitted that the incident only shows how “substandard” is the quality of the projects in the city. He said, "Nakita natin yung insidente ay eye opener sa pagpapatunay na meron nga talagang problema, may substandard quality yung mga itinayong housing projects dito sa Zamboanga. Tuluy-tuloy yan.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Beng Climaco also shared the unfortunate incident on her Facebook account. She confirmed that she has ordered the “immediate repair of the bridge and asked security forces to ensure order in the area. The project forms part of the Z3R Program undertaken by the NHA and DPWH.”
