If you’re still high on the equally heartwarming and heartbreaking hit indie film Kita Kita, perhaps you’ll be fascinated to hear the love story of the real-life “Tonio” and “Lea.”
RG and Jessel Sayson had been married for 10 years now and their love story is certainly one for the books. Born blind because of a condition called congenital cataract, Jessel managed to see RG’s true intentions just like the character of Lea.
RELATED STORIES
The couple first met in 2004 when Jessel came to his office. Although they didn’t immediately hit off, RG soon realized that he wanted Jessel in his life.
Like Tonio’s character in the film, RG was determined to win Jessel’s heart. He even showered her with flowers and had coffee dates with her.
“Minsan magtetext siya umaga, marereply ko hapon pa or gabi kasi wala akong taga-basa. So usually, pamangkin ko yang nagbabasa ng text niya so nauuna pa kiligin yung pamangkin ko bago ako,” Jessel recounted.
After three months of courtship, RG and Jessel officially became a couple. Their relationship was smooth-sailing until a few months before their supposed wedding in 2007. Jessel began doubting RG’s love for her.
“Naisip ko piano kapag nagka-anak kami tapos nagaan sa akin yung anak namin. Mamahalin pa ba niya ako, talaga?” Jessel revealed.
Eventually, Jessel was able to see through RG and agreed to tie the knot. While Jessel lacks her sense of sight, RG makes sure to compensate for this by serving as her guide.
Indeed, Jessel’s blindness didn’t prevent her from seeing what’s in RG”S heart.

“Ako particularly sa mga babae, wag kayo magconcentrate lang sa itsura. Wala naman masama doon. Alagaan mo yang sarili mo, mahalin mo yung sarili mo dahil isang araw hindi malayo na pwedeng may magmahal sayo at magtrato sayo na parang princess,” Jessel said.
