Noven Belleza is 'Tawag ng Tanghala' grand champion

MANILA, Philippines – Rice farmer from Negros Occidental and crowd-favorite Noven Belleza was named first-ever grand champion of the rebooted "Tawag ng Tanghalan" on ABS-CBN's It's Showtime.

Belleza won the hearts of judges and viewers, receiving 99.96% of combined scores and grabbing the title at the 'Huling Tapatan" on Saturday, March 11 at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.

Belleza who delivered powerful performances singing "May Bukas Pa" for first round (Final 6) and Air Supply medley for the second round (Top 3) got standing ovation and earned praises of the hurados.

"Gusto ko pong sabihin sa lahat ng tao na may gusto po akong patunayan, na kahit anong katayuan sa buhay ay hindi imposible na abutin ang pangarap ninyo, basta magpursige lang," said Belleza after singing his cover of "May Bukas Pa."

Judge Mitoy Yonting told him: "Dating magsasaka pero umaani na. Tama rin iyong sinabi mo, abutin mo ang pangarap mo dahil iyon ang gusto mo. Unahin mo ang sarili mo para kung gusto mong tulungan iyong mga nais mong tulungan, makakatulong ka."

Singer Nyoy Volante also praised the farmer: "You're one of the most unique sa mga finalists. Actually sa lahat ng sumali, iyong vocal quality mo ay very unique. Lalong lalo na as a male singer. Napaka-effortless mong magpasikat."

The Negros Occidental native will go home with P2 million pesos worth of cash, house and lot, a recording contract under Star Music, negosyo package and a musical package from JB Music.

Meanwhile, YouTube sensation Sam Mangubat and music teacher from Camarines Sur Froilan Canlas ranked second and third, garnering 49.09 and 45.78% of combined scores, respectively.

Mangubat will receive P500,000 while Canlas will go home with P250,000 cash prize.

Among the Top 6 finalists were the blind singer Carlmalone Montecido and young singers Marielle Montellano of Lipa City, Batangas and Cebuana Marielle Montellano.

Starting Monday, March 13, It's Showtime will open another door to search for the best kiddie singers through "Tawag ng Tanghalan: Kids."
