The fire, which started at around 6:20 pm on Wednesday, February 1, was put under control as of 12:30 am on Thursday, according to authorities. However, fire operations are still ongoing.

In his interview with GMA News, Remulla said “There were 104 people in the hospital last night. There were 10 who had third-degree burns and some of them are very critical.”

No deaths had been documented, but authorities are still trying to determine if any worker is missing amid the fire.

Based on a report by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the blaze started at the House Technologies Industries (HTI) building. About 6,000 to 7,000 workers were there at the time the fire broke out. Initial information showed that a power saw that malfunctioned caused the fire.

Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) director-general Brig. Gen. Charito Plaza revealed that there were workers allegedly trapped on the third floor of the building as fire broke out on the second floor. The fire then reached a nearby factory containing wood used to build houses.

HTI, a Japanese company, has vowed to cover the medical expenses of the fire victims. In addition, PEZA also promised to provide assistance to the fire victims.

Currently, the victims are being treated in several hospitals around Rosario.
