PAGASA: 'Bagyong Nina' makes landfall over Bato, Catanduanes

MANILA, Philippines - 'Bagyong Nina' (international name Nock-Ten) has made landfall over Bato, Catanduanes at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 25, 2016, weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 8:00 p.m. bulletin.

At 7:00 p.m. today, the eye of Typhoon Nina was located based on all available data including Virac doppler radar at 20km Southwest of Virac, Catanduanes (13.5°N, 124.1°E).

'Nina' has maximum sustained winds of up to 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph. It is forecast to move West at 15 kph.

The typhoon is expected to traverse the provinces of Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Southern Quezon, Laguna, Batangas and Cavite.

Tropical cyclone warning signal No. 4 (171-220 kph expected in 12 hours) was raised over the areas of Catanduanes and Camarines Sur.

Signal No. 3 (121-170 kph expected in 18 hours) has been hoisted over the areas of Burias Island, Albay, Camarines Norte, Southern Quezon, Sorsogon and Marinduque.

Signal No. 2 (61-120 kph expected in 24 hours) is up over Metro Manila, Masbate including Ticao Island, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, Rest of Quezon including Polillo, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, Romblon, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Bataan and Northern Samar.

Signal No. 1(30-60 kph expected in 36 hours) was raised over Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Zambales, Pampanga, Tarlac and Calamian Group of Islands, Northern portion of Samar and Northern portion of Eastern Samar.

  • 72 Hour(Wednesday afternoon): 295 km North Northwest of Pagasa Island, Palawan (OUTSIDE PAR)(13.4°N, 113.0°E)
  • 96 Hour(Thursday afternoon):500 km West Southwest of Pagasa Island, Palawan (OUTSIDE PAR)(9.1°N, 110.7°E)

The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 400 km diameter of the typhoon.

Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Luzon.

Storm surge height of up to 2.5 meters is possible over the coastal areas of Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, and Catanduanes.
