ABS-CBN Corporation and GMA Network, two of the leading media and entertainment companies in the country, both claimed their lead in the October 2016 TV ratings based on different ratings service provider - Kantar Media and Nielsen TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM).

In a report from ABS-CBN, the Kapamilya network gained more viewers across urban and rural homes in the country as it obtained a national average audience share of 45%, a solid eleven-point lead over GMA’s 34%, based on Kantar Media data covering both urban and rural homes across the country.

Meanwhile, GMA said to outperform ABS-CBN for the period October 1 to 31 (with October 23 to 31 based on overnight data), with a 37.4 percent average household audience share, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 35.6 percent by 1.8 points.

Here's the full report:

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has 2,000 homes based in urban areas that represent only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.

ABS-CBN’s primetime block (6PM-12NN) also led in October, generating a national audience share of 47% last month versus GMA’s 34%. The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively.

Viewers nationwide also tuned in to ABS-CBN in other parts of the day. Aside from primetime, ABS-CBN won in other time blocks nationwide that include the morning block (6AM to 12NN) with 40% versus GMA’s 36%; noontime block (12NN to 3PM) with 45% versus GMA’s 33%; and afternoon block (3PM to 6PM) with 45% versus GMA’s 34%.

Ten out of the twelve most watched programs in the country were also produced by ABS-CBN, with the undisputed number one program “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” leading the list with a national TV rating of 37.4%.

ABS-CBN also attracted more viewers than GMA in other areas. It won the ratings game in Total Luzon with an average total day audience share of 40% versus GMA’s 37%; in Total Visayas with 53% versus GMA’s 29%; in Total Mindanao with 55% vs GMA’s 29%; in Total Balance Luzon with 49% versus GMA’s 35%; and in Metro Manila with 36% versus GMA’s 33%.

GMA scored top ratings across all dayparts in NUTAM, including primetime due to the consistently strong performance of its programs on this hotly contested block.

Six of the ten most watched programs in NUTAM belonged to GMA with Encantadia, the 2016 version of the well-loved Kapuso telefantasya emerging as the highest-rating Kapuso show nationwide.

Completing the list of GMA programs in the top 10 are flagship newscast 24 Oras, top-rating comedy program Pepito Manaloto, multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, primetime series Alyas Robinhood, and weekly drama anthologyMagpakailanman.

Meanwhile, the Kapuso Network also furthered its leadership position in Urban Luzon, which accounts for 77 percent of all urban households in the country.

In Urban Luzon, GMA won across all dayparts and registered an average household share of 41.9 percent, while ABS-CBN posted only 31.3 percent, which is 10.6 points behind GMA’s total day average.

More programs from GMA also occupied the list of top shows in Urban Luzon. Encantadia kept its winning streak and took the top spot over-all in this particular area.
