It's Showtime: Gabriela's complaint on 'Pastillas Girl' segment irresponsible

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN's noontime show It's Showtime said that complaint filed by women's group Gabriela on the alleged pimping of Angelica Jane Yap, more popularly known as "Pastillas Girl" is "not only unfair and irresponsible, but also hurtful and offensive to women like Angelica who has done nothing wrong but to share her story with the hope of getting another shot at love."

The statement was released Thursday as an answer to the controversial complaint of Gabriela given to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

It read: "The intent of the show is to help Angelica in her journey to love and acceptance after recovering from a failed relationship. After hearing Pastillas Girl's story, a member of the studio audience named Topher declared his intent in getting to know her."

"Netizen Jess also expressed his feelings and flew all the way from Bacolod to ABS-CBN compound just to see her. Netizens Evan and Richard also went to the studio to personally meet Angelica."

"Nasaan Ka, Mr. Pastillas?' also shows the values of forgiveness, honesty, and being open to new possibilities. These were evident when Angelica and Enzo, her ex-boyfriend, got closure from their breakup after he showed up last September 19 on 'It's Showtime' to personally apologize to her for hurting her in the past."

"She also reconciled with her friend Karen, now Enzo's girlfriend, in an emotional reunion last September 25. Topher, one of Angelica's admirers, also patched things up with his ex-girlfriend, who came on the show last September 21 to discuss the problems that caused their breakup."

"All throughout, Angelica has the freedom of choice to do and reveal what she wants. She was never forced to do anything in the segment without her full consent. To protect her, the show also screens her admirers before making them appear in the show to check their intentions."

"Aside from that, 'It's Showtime' presents Angelica's story in such a way that the public understands her through her one-on-one interviews with Vice about her experiences, by bringing out Enzo and Karen, and by providing her the opportunity to voice out her own insights about love and life so she will not be prejudged based on her social media accounts and her viral video."

"...For people to suggest that 'the show is pimping Pastillas Girl' is not only unfair and irresponsible, but also hurtful and offensive to women like Angelica who has done nothing wrong but to share her story with the hope of getting another shot at love.

"Pastillas Girl may not have a perfect past. But she is now on her journey to finding a second chance at life. It's more than just finding a new love."

The management of the noontime show was summoned by the MTRCB last October 1 to answer allegations and give "feedback from the general public" over the segment.
