PNR extends train service to Sta. Rosa, Laguna

Manila - The state-run Philippine National Railways (PNR) announced the extension of its Metro South Commuter train service from Binan to Sta. Rosa, Laguna starting December 23, 2013.

The Southline extension service includes two (2) trips daily on the Tutuban-Sta. Rosa-Tutuban route to leave Sta. Rosa Station in Barangay (Village) Labas, City Proper at 4:54 a.m. and leave Tutuban Station at 6:37 p.m.

The inauguration of the commuter route extension, led by Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, also coincided with the blessing of the new station buildings and premises in Muntinlupa, San Pedro,Binan and Sta. Rosa stations.

PNR General Manager Joseph Allan C. Dilaysaid that the significant and timely development is part of the DOTC and the agency’s continuing efforts in providing convenient, affordable and safe transportation service to the riding public.

“This is also our small Christmas gift to our commuters, especially those living in the Laguna area. And having a revitalized railway system that would take passengers to and from Laguna will promote economic activities in the area,” Dilay stressed.

General Manager Dilay assured the riding public on the safety of the Southline extension based on the extensive inspections and assessment of the Tutuban to Sta. Rosa Line.

The PNR Chief also said that the agency will likewise extend its South line service to Calamba, Laguna as soon as the strengthening work at San Cristobal Bridge is completed.

The PNR for the past months has been steadily restoring the south railway system to better serve its commuters and provide an optional mode of transportation to visit Manila or other areas in Laguna.
