Manila, Philippines - The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) summons GMA 7's 'Bubble Gang' for derogatory portrayal of female character in the November 29, 2013 episode of "Adventures of Susie Lualhati " which tackles story on her 'Puto Bumbong' job application.
MTRCB on its official Twitter account said they have been alarmed over alleged gender-sensitive 'Susie' character that gave the impression of simulating male 'self-abuse' on the said episode of the longest-running comedy sketch gag show in the Philippines.
The subject segment according to MTRCB showed the character Susie clad in skimpy hanging low neckline tank top (played by Ruffa Mae Quinto) applying for the position of cook and seller of puto bumbong with entrepreneur Mr. Beethoven Bunagan (Michael V.).
In a story, Mr. Bunagan initially refused to hire Susie because of her lack of experience in making puto bumbong but was prevailed to give her a try. So, he showed how to cook and remove the puto bumbong from a bamboo tube. A group of men were then ogling at Susie with apparent sexually oriented delight.
The said Bubble Gang segment which lasted for about 2 minutes transcribed as follows:
Abala si Mr. Bunagan (Michael V), bilang may-ari ng tindahan ng puto bumbong, sa pagbibenta ng kanyang paninda. Napansin niya si Susie (Rufa Mae), na nakaantabay lang sa kanya.
Mr. Bunagan: "Ikaw ba yung mag-a-apply bilang tindera dito?"
Susie: "Ah, opo, ako nga."
Mr. Bunagan: "May ano ka na ba… experience ka na ba sa paggawa ng puto bumbong?"
Susie: "Wala pa po, pero kaya ko namang subukan."
Mr. Bunagan: "Ay naku, hindi puwedeng ganyan. E, ang kailangan ko ay may experience na sa pagluto ng puto bumbong kasi andami nang nag-apply dito, mga walang experience, hindi ko tinanggap. Mahirap na, kasi wala akong time magturo, e."
Susie: "E, huwag ho kayong mag-alala sir, pakita niyo lang sa akin. Feeling ko, kaya ko talagang gawin ‘yan."
Mr. Bunagan: "O, sige, pero isang beses lang ha? Wala akong time, e."
Susie: "O, sige."
Dito ay nag-demonstrate na si Mr. Bunagan kung paano ang pagluluto ng puto bumbong.
Susie: "Isusuksok lang."
Mr. Bunagan: "Oo, tapos pagkanaluto na, gaya nito o, ganyanin mo lang…"
Susie: "Tapos, ano po yung lalabas?"
Mr. Bunagan: "Itataktak mo na dito."
Susie: "Ah , 'yan na yun."
Mr. Bunagan: "O, kaya mo ba yan?"
Susie: "Parang madali naman. O sige, ita-try ko."
Si Susie naman ang sumubok magluto.
Susie: "So, bubunutin ko na."
Tapos ay dito na nag-muwestra si Susie ng pagtataktak ng puto bumbong. Sa pagkakataong ito, pabilis na nang pabilis ang pagtataktak ni Susie, na nakakuha ng atensiyon ng mga customer ng tindahan.
Susie: "Parang mahirap naman ata ‘to, sir. Parang walang lumalabas… A, a, a… grabe naman, sir… ang hirap naman pala."
Dito ay patuloy sa pagtataktak si Susie, na akmang tumatalun-talon habang umaalog-alog ang hinaharap niya, na nakabalot sa isang sexy sleeveless top. Sumilip-silip ang dibdib nito habang nagtataktak.
Susie: "Di ko na kaya Sir. Ang hirap… sa inyo na lang."
Mr. Bunagan: "Ah, actually… tuloy mo lang yung ginagawa mo. Sige, tanggap ka na."

MTRCB added: “It appears that the segment stereotypically portrayed a woman as an object of rather frivolous, albeit carnal, delight. When women are treated as commodities, they are disrespected and degraded. The ‘commodified’ depiction of a woman in the program is demeaning and derogatory within the context of S.16, Chapter 4 of Republic Act No. 9710, otherwise known as Magna Carta of Women.”
MTRCB reminds that the 'SPG' pictogram in the show only indicates for theme and language. This constitutes to the self-regulation in regard to the program.
Due to the gravity of subject matter, personnel behind and personalities of GMA 7's Bubble Gang appeared on a Mandatory Conference held on Monday, December 9 at the MTRCB Office.
Based on discussion, Bubble Gang undertakes to submit proposed measures to ensure gender-sensitive content by December 16, 2013.
Last month, MTRCB also ordered GMA Network for the case of 'Unang Hirit' involving the use of disrespectful language in Arnold Clavio's interview with Atty. Villamor, Napoles lawyer.
