Galaxy S3 grabs 'best selling smartphone' title from iPhone 4S

Competition between two leading smartphone manufacturers in the world intensifies as Strategy Analytics, research firm  reports that Samsung Galaxy S3 is the best-selling for Q3 2012 placing on top of Apple's iPhone 4S worldwide sales performance.

A total of 18 million units of Samsung Galaxy S III was shipped worldwide for the third quarter while Apple have 16.2 million units of iPhone 4S shipped on the same period, according to Strategy Analytics.

Galaxy S3 market share is around 10.7 percent while iPhone 4S have 9.7 percent share of smartphones shipped globally.

During the same period, the research firm reports that Apple sold 6 million iPhone 5 handsets, giving it an immediate 3.7 percent of the smartphone market.

According to reports, strong figure of sales for Galaxy S3 hits 20 million units on 100 days and 30 million in less than six months.

We can say that Samsung nowadays slowly dethroning Apple as king of mobile phone market.

We will check on the last quarter of 2012 results if the same scenario will happen given the presence of iPhone 5 in the market and the Christmas holiday season where peak sales is achieved.
