Million Filipinos specially the Visayans flocked at South Road, Cebu City on Friday for the thanksgiving mass and celebration for the Philippines' second saint,Pedro Calungsod.
A new shrine at South Road properties was built in his honor.
Calungsod's image was brought to the shrine in a fluvial procession early Thursday afternoon featuring a replica of a galleon where Calungsod traveled in his mission to Guam, where he was killed.
According to reports from CBCP, more than 70 bishops including newly appointed cardinal and Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle were present to the event.
“People are inspired because we have a new saint. People are looking for someone as a model whom they can emulate,” priest Eduardo Ventic, one of the organizers of the event, said.
President Benigno Aquino III and Vice President Jejomar Binay are present on the event. His Excellency gave his short message in honor of the martyr saint after the thanksgiving mass.
Fireworks display and concert-like party are also scheduled on November 30.
Pedro Calungsod was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI last Oct. 21 at St. Peter's Square Rome, Italy.
