MANILA, Philippines – The low pressure area (LPA) east of Catanduanes has developed into tropical depression (TD) 'Crising'.
According to state weather bureau PAGASA's 11 a.m. bulletin on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the center of Bagyong Crising was estimated based on all available data at 725 km East of Virac, Catanduanes.

'Crising' has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1004 hPa.
It is moving westward at 35 km/h while strong winds extend outwards up to 280 km from the center.

TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
Tropical Depression Crising will move generally west northwestward to northwestward over the entire forecast period. It is closest to Northern Luzon by Friday (July 18) evening and may pass close or make landfall over Babuyan Islands.

A slight change in the succeeding forecast track may also suggest a landfall scenario over mainland Cagayan.
Crising is forecast to reach Tropical Storm category by tomorrow (July 17) morning. It is forecast to continue intensifying over the Philippine Sea and may reach Severe Tropical Storm category by Friday afternoon or evening, prior to its approach to Northern Luzon area.
Further intensification up to Typhoon category prior to approach is not ruled out.

The southwest monsoon will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
Today: Palawan, Camiguin, Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands.
Tomorrow (July 17): Quezon, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Camiguin, Zamboanga del Norte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands.
Friday (July 18): Quezon, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Camiguin, Zamboanga del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Davao Region.
TROPICAL CYCLONES THIS YEAR
'Bagyong Crising' is the Philippines' third tropical cyclone for 2025.
On average, there are 20 tropical cyclones that could form or enter the PAR each year. Only half of those are projected to make landfall.
