HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS

Heavy Rainfall

Today, Tropical Storm 'Dante' is forecast to bring:

Moderate to heavy rains over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Islands, the northern portion of Palawan including Calamian Islands.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Oriental Mindoro, and the rest of Palawan including Cuyo and Kalayaan Islands.

Under these conditions, scattered (becoming widespread in areas with significant antecedent rainfall) flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas with high or very high susceptibility to these hazards as identified in hazard maps. Adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding in the absence of such rainfall occurrence due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

Severe Winds

Strong winds to gale-force winds are possible over the areas where TCWS No. 2 is hoisted. Such conditions may bring generally light to moderate damage to structures and vegetation.

Strong winds (strong breeze to near gale) which may cause generally very light damage to structures and vegetation may be experienced in areas where TCWS No. 1 is in effect.

HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS

In the next 24 hours, rough to very rough seas (2.5 to 4.0 m) will be experienced over the seaboards of areas where TCWS No. 2 is in effect. Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts over these waters. Mariners without the proper experience should immediately seek safe harbor.

Moderate to rough seas (1.2 to 3.0 m) over the seaboard of areas where TCWS No. 1 is in effect, the remaining seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, the remaining seaboards of CALABARZON, the remaining seaboards of Mindoro Provinces, the seaboard of Marinduque, and the western seaboard of Romblon.

Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

TROPICAL CYCLONES

'Dante', the fourth tropical cyclone for 2021, entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Saturday, May 30.

PAGASA predicts that 1–4 tropical cyclones are expected to form between April and June. Two cyclones developed/entered in PAR so far in the said range - 'Bagyong Bising' in April and 'Bagyong Crising' mid-May.

On average, there are 20 tropical cyclones that could form or enter the PAR each year. Only half of those are projected to make landfall.

During the climate outlook forum on May 26, the weather bureau said the onset of the rainy season is expected to start soon.
