'Dante' has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1004 hectopascal. It is moving West Northwestward at 15 km/h.

PAGASA said 'Dante' entered the PAR at 1:00 AM today. On the forecast track, the tropical depression is forecast to continue moving west northwestward until tomorrow morning before gradually accelerating northwestward for the rest of tomorrow and into Tuesday.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS

Heavy Rainfall

In the next 24 hours, the outer rainbands of 'Dante' may bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Caraga and Davao Region.

Under these conditions, isolated to scattered flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps.

Adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding in the absence of such rainfall occurrence due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

Severe Winds

The present track forecast shows that the hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) over any land area in the country remains less likely.

However, given the uncertainty in its track forecast, any further westward shift in the track forecast may lead to the hoisting of TCWS over the eastern portion of the country.

Tropical Cyclones

PAGASA predicts that 1–4 tropical cyclones are expected to form between April and June. Two cyclones developed/entered in PAR so far in the said range - 'Bagyong Bising' in April and 'Bagyong Crising' mid-May.

On average, there are 20 tropical cyclones that could form or enter the PAR each year. Only half of those are projected to make landfall.

During the climate outlook forum on May 26, the weather bureau said the onset of the rainy season is expected to start soon.
