The incident happened inside Building B of Megamall, the second largest shopping mall in the Philippines.

Mandaluyong City Police Officer-In-Charge Colonel Milo Pagtalunan said the 23-year-old victim from Sta. Maria, Bulacan “was suffering from depression, and was previously confined at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH).”

The woman was rushed to VRP Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, SM Supermalls management issued an official statement on the incident and said an investigation is underway.

A netizen wrote on Twitter, "This happened in SM Megamall kanina lang! Gosh! Suicide is not the answer to depression!"

Another netizen shared that one of his friends also did the same thing in Megamall years ago. He tweeted, "TW: Saw tweets and posts on Facebook regarding an incident in Megamall. Four years ago, a colleague of mine did the same thing in the same mall. We were all shocked. No one knew he was carrying something heavy."

In October 2017, a female customer in her early 20s also jumped to her death, from the 5th floor of the mall into the basement. She was rushed immediately to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

A 48-year-old woman named Madonna Guanzon committed suicide in the same mall and building on Valentine's Day in 2016. She was also declared dead on arrival at the Medical City hospital, where mall guards had taken her. Investigation said the cause of her repugnant decision was jealousy.

Also in 2016, 18-year-old Jessa Lojo, freshman BS Physical Education student of Rizal Technological University (RTU), allegedly jumped from the fifth floor of Megamall's Building B.

Reminder: If you have thoughts of suicide or know of someone who is struggling with it, don't hesitate to reach out and get help.
