QS Ranking: 14 Philippine Schools among Asia's Top Universities for 2021

MANILA, Philippines – Fourteen of the country's best schools were included in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings for 2021, with results of the study released on Wednesday, November 25.

The University of the Philippines (UP) placed 69th among the top 650 higher educational institutions (HEIs) in Asia, the highest rank the country's premier state university has obtained in the annual rankings since its 2016 edition.

The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) followed at 135th while De La Salle University at 166th and University of Santo Tomas (UST) at 186th.

Only UST and Mapua University (501-550) received the 4 QS Stars merit, a rating that depends on the number of points achieved through the evaluation of program strength, facilities, graduate employability, social responsibility, inclusiveness, and more.

Published annually since 2009, the QS Asia University Rankings, highlights the top universities in Asia each year.

"The methodology used to create the ranking is similar to that used for the QS World University Rankings, but with some additional indicators and adapted weightings," QS said.

The 11 indicators used to compile the QS Asia University Rankings are as follows:
  • Academic reputation (30%)
  • Employer reputation (20%)
  • Faculty-student ratio (10%)
  • International research network (10%)
  • Citations per paper (10%)
  • Papers per faculty (5%)
  • Staff with a PhD (5%)
  • International faculty (2.5%)
  • International students (2.5%)
  • Inbound exchange students (2.5%)
  • Outbound exchange students (2.5%)
