MANILA, Philippines – The East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) on Saturday denied the allegations of non-reporting of deaths and shortage of cadaver bags in their hospital.
In a disturbing social media post of veteran journalist Arnold Clavio, it says that dead bodies are piling up in hospital hallway and allegedly told not to do a census on deaths.

"Sa isang ospital sa Metro Manila, may utos na huwag nang magbilang ng namamatay dahil sa COVID19. Ayon sa isang frontliner, nakakatakot ang situwasyon dahil nagkalat sa hallway ng ospital ang mga bangkay," Clavio wrote on Instagram.
“That rumor I really don’t know how it started and how it escalated. But as far as East Avenue was concerned, we received no order or directive from the DOH or the local government unit of Quezon City to stop recording and reporting death-related to COVID,” Dr. Alfonso G Nuñez III, OIC Medical Center Chief II, told ABS-CBN News.
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier also rejected the claims. “DOH clarifies that it has never issued any order to stop the census or reporting of deaths, or any case related to COVID-19 to any health facility."

EAMC also denied reports that it had run out of cadaver bags.
“We have cadaver bags available. At least 30 cadaver bags available. And another 100 coming in next week,” Nuñez said.
Nuñez explained that the person whose number was mentioned in social media post calling for donors or suppliers of body bags for EAMC was a trainee.
“Maybe she just wanted to ask for anybody who can give or refer possible companies to whom we can buy more. But we have cadaver bags. This is supplied by Department of Health and other bags were procured by us,” he said.
But Clavio in another Instagram post revealed Dr. Crystal Songcuan's letter to Senator Bong Go seeking supply of cadaver bags as the hospital is facing an "unexpected increase in the number of deceased patients due to COVID-19 crisis."
"Ang tanong po ng lahat, Bakit kinailangan ni Dr. Crystal Songcuan na mag post sa kanyang social media account at ng ina ng isa pang frontliner na ang EAMC ay “in dire need of cadaver bags”. Personal pang sumulat si Dr. Songcuan kay Sen. Bong Go para rito. Ayon naman kay Sen. Go nakapagpadala na sila ng tulong sa EAMC," Clavio wrote.
"Sa ngayon, ang huling impormasyon ko, ay may mga dumating na cadaver bags at masisimulan na ang maayos na pagsunog ng mga bangkay. Yun ang mahalaga," Clavio added.
Meanwhile, DOH shared photos of EAMC frontliners who just received meals, health commodities, and personal protective equipment (PPEs) from DOH Metro Manila Center for Health Development and partner organisations, private donors, and civic society groups.
