MANILA, Philippines – The local government of Quezon City denied using a garbage truck in the delivery of their relief goods to residents affected by the ongoing community quarantine due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

On Facebook, the official page of Quezon City Government issued an official statement on the viral photos showing what netizens described as a garbage truck in the delivery of relief goods in Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.

They described the report as "fake news" and clarified that the truck is a cargo/utility truck.

Netizens were enraged with viral posts claiming that a "garbage truck" was used to deliver relief goods to Quezon City residents. They said how disheartening it is to see the poor treatment of the government towards those in need.

Actress and former Quezon City councilor Aiko Melendez was one of those who lamented the "inhumane" treatments to the residents.

She wrote on her Facebook page, "Para naman di makatao ang trato nyo sa mga constituents nyo. Kung ako ay taga barangay Tatalon ipapasoli ko mga relief goods na yan dahil baka yan pa maging sanhi ng sakit."

Aiko continued, "'Di pa nga tapos ang mga problema sa QC dagdag na naman to? My heart bleeds more now hindi porke't mahirap mahirap dn ang pagtrato nyo po. Sino ba inaasahan nyo sa tuwing eleksyon hindi po ba sila?!”

Another netizen commented how the relief goods could now be contaminated after being placed in a garbage truck. He wrote, "Wala na po mamatay sa gutom sa mga mikrobya nalang. Grabe truck ng basura pagkaen po laman nyan. ganyan ba tingin mo sa mga mahihirap nakakaawa naman mga mahihirap sa lugar niyo."
