MANILA, Philippines – Several local government units (LGUs) have declared class suspensions for Monday, September 9, 2019 due to inclement weather brought by the southwest monsoon or hanging habagat.

In the 7:00 p.m. local weather forecast by state weather bureau PAGASA, it says that southwest monsoon is affecting Northern and Central Luzon. It will continue to affect these areas until Tuesday, September 10.

PAGASA warned that Habagat is triggering scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over these areas:

  • Metro Manila
  • Central Luzon
  • Ilocos Region
  • Cordillera Administrative Region
  • Batanes
  • Babuyan Group of Islands
  • Rizal

"Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms is expected over the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Aurora, Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands caused by Southwest Monsoon," PAGASA said.

"Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya," PAGASA added.

PAGASA is currently monitoring two weather systems - the Low Pressure Area (LPA) at 2,205 km East of Southern Luzon and Typhoon Faxai (international name) - both outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

The LPA is expected to develop into Tropical Depression 'Marilyn' in the coming days.
