GrabFood driver loses Php1,900 in 14 milk tea order from bogus customer

MANILA, Philippines – A GrabFood driver was forced to sell 14 sealed packs of milk tea that he bought for a total of Php1,900 after his customer did not show up. A netizen who bought some of the milk tea took pity on him and posted his story on social media to raise awareness about this perennial problem with the food delivery service.

But when he arrived at the hotel, the customer did not show up and apparently refused to take his calls. Faced with a huge loss, the GrabFood driver was forced to sell the milk tea for a lower price to simply recover some of the money.

“I feel sorry for him lalo na nung sinasabi niya na luging lugi na siya at wala na siyang pang gatas,” de Lara told CNN Philippines.

Considering that GrabFood drivers pay for the food with their own money before collecting the payment from customers, many risk losing their capital from no-show customers like this bogus one who ordered the milk tea.

“Sana maiwasan na yung mga ganitong issues. Sana magawan ng paraan. Sana hindi na maulit,” de Lara urged GrabFood.

Meanwhile, Grab Philippines assured netizens that GrabFood drivers are fully reimbursed just in case they encounter unclaimed orders like this one involving the 14 orders of milk tea.

“Please do note that our delivery-partners are fully-reimbursed by Grab for unclaimed orders once reported,” Grab Philippines wrote in a tweet.

Grab Philippines also warns customers not to prank their drivers, writing that they will imposing account penalties and suspension on these individuals.

Netizens were quick to point out, however, that it’s so easy for people to just buy a new SIM card (you can get as cheap as Php20!) if Grab suspends their account for prank and bogus orders.
