Due to shortage of teachers in the United States, CCSD has reached overseas to fill up their vacancies, particularly in SPEd.

Recently, 57 Filipino teachers were hired to be sent to the US to teach students with learning disabilities. They are the third batch of SPEd teachers since Nevada started recruiting in 2017.

The qualified teachers are between the ages of 23 and 30 and will undergo a training that includes not only classroom management but also individualized lesson planning of students with special needs.

Dr. Michael Santa Juana of the Filipino American Educators of Nevada helps with the new teachers' training and cultural integration. He said, "We follow the same curriculum with the U.S. standards and the Philippine standards. That's the advantage of the Filipino teachers so they can teach anywhere else."

The CCSD also provides J1 visas to their hired teachers to work in Las Vegas for a minimum of 3 years. They will be given an option to renew their contract to stay for another 2 more years.

The base salary for new teachers in Clark County is $40,900 (approximately P2.1 million) in a year.

One of the newly-hired teachers Loremia Loremia shared, "What we earn here is I think we have to work hard for 6 months in the Philippines for a month here."

Another teacher Jan Salazar also said, "There’s a huge difference in terms of the basic salary and in terms of the benefits as well. I miss my family but for a better future and greener pasture."

The Clark County School District (CCSD) serves 320,000 students and one of the largest and fastest growing districts in the United States. CCSD stated that they are continuously seeking highly motivated employees who are committed to helping students thrive.
