'Bagyong Jenny' PAGASA weather update August 28, 2019

MANILA, Philippines – 'Bagyong Jenny' has crossed the mountainous terrain of Northern Luzon and has left the landmass, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 5:00 am bulletin on Wednesday, August 28, 2019.

The center of Tropical Depression 'Jenny' left the Luzon landmass and emerged over the Lingayen Gulf at around 3:00 am today. Re-intensification into a Tropical Storm is highly likely as the weather system moves further away from the landmass.

At 4:00 am today, the center of TD 'Jenny' was estimated based on all available data at 125 km Northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

'Bagyong Jenny' has maximum winds of up to 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 85 km/h. It is moving West Northwest at 35 km/h.

Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 1 (30-60 km/h Expected in 36 hours) is up over the areas of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Pampanga, Bulacan, northern portion of Quezon (including Polillo Islands).

'Jenny' is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility this afternoon or evening.

Between morning and afternoon today, light to moderate with frequent heavy rains is expected over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya. Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Mindoro Provinces, and Palawan.

Between afternoon today and tomorrow (August 29) afternoon: Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains due to Southwest Monsoon over Western Visayas, Mindoro Provinces, northern portion of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands), Zambales and Bataan.

Residents in the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to floods and rain-induced landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm or Rainfall Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings to be issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.

Gusty conditions may occur in areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) #1. Occasional gusts may also be experienced in Visayas and in other areas of Luzon due to the Southwest Monsoon.

Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the eastern and western seaboards of Southern Luzon, including the seaboards of areas still under TCWS #1 due to potentially rough sea conditions.
