Atienza offers a job to janitress involved in Gretchen Diez altercation

MANILA, Philippines – Buhay Party List Rep. Lito Atienza said he is more than willing to offer a job to the janitress who was involved in the altercation with transgender woman Gretchen Diez.

Atienza is one of the lawmakers who have expressed their opposition in the passage of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) bills.

Due to the recent altercation involving Gretchen Diez and a janitress of Farmers Plaza last August 14, the controversial SOGIE bills have once again started a national debate.

Atienza sided with the janitress who refused Diez to use the women's restroom. He said the worker simply used her "common sense" during the incident. The lawmaker even offered to give her a job.

He said, "I’d like to offer you a job. Tutulungan kita makahanap ng bagong trabaho. Gumamit ka ng common sense."

Atienza went on to call out the LGBT community for asking everyone to change their way of life to cater their personal wants.

I'm talking about the LGBT community."

Aside from Atienza, evangelist and CIBAC party-list Rep. Eddie Villanueva had also expressed his refusal of the SOGIE Bill.

In his recent privilege speech last Wednesday, Villanueva said the SOGIE bills undermine the role of parents, threaten academic freedom, imperil freedom of speech and religion, and "puts into question the very foundation of our laws."

Villanueva has also filed a resolution summoning the janitress to legislative inquiries into the 13 House SOGIE bills.
