MANILA, Philippines – Classes have been suspended in several areas on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 due to Tropical Storm Falcon (Danas) and the southwest monsoon rains (Habagat).

In the 8:00 pm bulletin on Tuesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains will be experienced until Wednesday evening over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be experienced over Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and the rest of Visayas, Central Luzon, and MIMAROPA.

'Bagyong Falcon' is expected to closely approach or make landfall over Babuyan-Batanes area tomorrow afternoon or evening and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday morning (July 19).

At 7:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm 'Falcon' was estimated based on all available data at 250 km East Southeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. It has maximum sustained winds of up to 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

TROPICAL CYCLONE WIND SIGNAL

Signal No. 2 (61-120 km/h Expected in 24 hours): Batanes and northeastern portion of Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands.

Signal No. 1 (30-60 km/h Expected in 36 hours): Rest of Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Isabela, Mountain Province, Ifugao, northern portion of Aurora, northern portion of Nueva Vizcaya, and northern portion of Quirino.

According to the automatic class suspension guideline by DepEd, the local government units (LGUs) have the authority to declare local suspensions in areas where there is no storm signal.

Meanwhile, cancellation of classes in the tertiary level especially in the private institutions will be at discretion of school administrators.
