Makati Mayor Abigail Binay said they allocated P100 million in this year's budget for the implementation of educational school field trips. The project is part of Makati's Talent Optimization Programs for Students (TOPS) of the Department of Education-Makati (DepEd-Makati). The aim is to develop “globally competitive Makatizens.”

Mayor Binay explained, “As I have vowed from the start of my term as mayor, my administration will strive to provide cutting edge and relevant education for the youth of Makati, at no cost to them or their parents and guardians.”

The city mayor said that they support various outdoor activities such as field trips because it help students “stimulate their thirst for learning at their young age.”

Mayor Binay said, “I believe that the early years of education is the ideal time for children to be allowed to explore and learn from the things they discover firsthand outside the classroom and school grounds. By creating a link between the concepts taught to them and how these apply in the real world, we will optimize their potential for learning.”

The local government assured the parents and guardians that they will exhaust all efforts to ensure the safety of school children.

Last November, Mayor Binay along with Congressman Luis Campos brought some 3,175 students from public schools to an educational day at Kidzania Manila. Several more fun and educational places await Makati students, including Luneta Park, Intramuros, and Barasoain Church, Museum in Bulacan and Manila Ocean Park.

The free educational field trip is just one of the perks that public school students in Makati are enjoying. This year, the Makati government allocated P700 million for its Project FREE (Free Relevant Excellent Education), that gives free school supplies and ready-to-wear school uniforms. They also receive free handbooks, rubber shoes, raincoats and boots, and dental and hygiene kits.
