'Bagyong Samuel' PAGASA weather update November 20, 2018

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Depression 'Samuel' has maintained its strength and it continues to move toward the Dinagat-Samar-Leyte area, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 5:00 am update on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

At 4:00 am today, the center of 'Bagyong Samuel' was estimated based on all available data at 395 km East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

TD Samuel has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 65 km/h. It is moving Northwest at 20 km/h.

"Samuel" is expected to make landfall over the Dinagat-Samar-Leyte area tonight.

PAGASA said that moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flooding and landslides, are expected over Caraga Region, Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central and Western Visayas and Bicol Region. Residents of these areas, especially those living near or in river channels, low-lying and mountainous areas, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates.

Likewise, fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the areas under Signal No. 1 and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon.

Samuel is the country's 19th tropical cyclone for 2018. The country usually gets an average of 20 tropical cyclones per year.
