'Habagat' enhanced by 'Bagyong Karding' brings heavy rains over Metro Manila, Luzon

MANILA, Philippines - The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) enhanced by 'Bagyong Karding' will continue to bring scattered to widespread monsoon rains over Northern Luzon, Central Luzon and the western section of Southern Luzon, state weather bureau PAGASA announced on Saturday, August 11, 2018.

In particular, moderate to at times heavy rains is expected over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Rizal.

Residents of these areas advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates.

Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the monsoon rains will continue until Sunday.

Sea travel remains risky over the western seaboard of Luzon.

Meanwhile, at 10:00 am today, Tropical Storm Karding was estimated at 1,030 km West of Extreme Northern Luzon or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) with maximum winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 75 km/h. It is moving North at 10 km/h towards southeastern China and has no direct effect on any part of the country.
