MANILA, Philippines – Classes have been suspended in several areas on Monday, July 23, 2018 due to southwest monsoon enhanced by Bagyong Josie.
In a weather bulletin issued at 2:00 pm on Sunday, PAGASA said tropical depression 'Josie' continues to move north-northeastward over Bashi Channel. Tropical cyclone warning signal No. 1 was lifted over Babuyan Group of Islands. Occasional rains with gusty winds are still expected in Batanes.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring scattered to widespread monsoon rains over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, rest of Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, Mindoro Provinces, and Northern Palawan including Calamian Group of Islands.
Residents of these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and in mountainous areas are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslide, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices and continue monitoring for updates.

Quezon City has declared suspension of classes on Monday but this is due to President Rodrigo Duterte's third State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2018.
PROVINCES
Based on automatic class suspension guideline by DepEd, LGUs have the authority to declare local suspensions in areas where there is no storm signal.
Meanwhile, cancellation of classes in the tertiary level especially in the private institutions will be at discretion of school administrators.
