VIRAL: Sponge vendor visits and thanks his “mga suki” for helping him graduate college

MANILA, Philippines - A sponge vendor was overjoyed for finally graduating college that he visited and thanked all his “mga suki.”

A Facebook post of Melvin Chua has gone viral as more netizens reacted on the heartwarming posts. Chua shared that he had been selling sponges since he was 8 years old. While other kids were playing in the streets, Chua would roam the streets of Makati to sell his dishwashing sponges. He would then give to his mother the P300 - P500 earnings he had for the day.

The hardworking kid would soon grow into a 22-year-old man, who had fostered friendly relationship among housewives, street vendors and homeowners.

14 years passed and countless sponges have been sold, now the kid vendor is a proud graduate.

The very thankful graduate shared that a day after their graduation exercises, he decided to visit his “suki” to personally thank them. He shared, “I really wanna tell them how thankful I am to all of them as they really contributed a lot and played a big role in my life for almost 13 years. Yes!! They witnessed my elementary, high school, and now my college Graduation. Sila yung mga taong kahit anong antas sa buhay- bumibili ng tig 5,10,15 20 kong paninda na panghugas ng plato.”

Chua was also overwhelmed with the responses he got from his “suki” who had been with him through the years. He shared some of the responses he got:

“Wow! Congratulations! Ang galing mo. Maliit ka pa dati. Elementary ka pa. Ngayon Gagraduate ka na sa College. So proud of you! Office management ka diba?”

“Galing mo! Akalain mo dahil sa pagtatiyaga mong maglako gagraduate ka na. Eh di hindi ka na maglalako nyan kasi sa office ka na magwowork? Galingan mo ah. Congrats sayo! Wag mo kaming kakalimutan.”

Chua added that no matter what he will achieve in life, he would still look back at his humble beginnings. Along with that memory are the good people who helped him along the way.

The viral post already has 11,000 shares since posting.

A thankful graduate

Melvin Chua graduated at the University of Makati with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Office Management. He fondly shared that on his graduation day, he bought his mother an blue blouse from Ukay-ukay and promised that one day he would be able to fulfill his mother's dreams of a good life.

Melvin also proudly revealed that he is now working at operations specialist in Bonifacio Global City. He inspired everyone to work hard and achieve their dreams.
